Doron Neeman was a Season 1 Semifinalist at the Russian Film Festival South Africa International. Originally from Israel, Doron is the filmmaker behind The Tragedy of the Lady, a striking and emotionally intense short film that stood out among the Season 1 selections.
THE TRAGEDY OF THE LADY
This compelling short tells the story of Hannah, a young actress forced to compete for the role of Lady Macbeth. In doing so, she faces her closest friend, whom she secretly desires. Set within the intense environment of an acting school, the film explores the delicate balance between love and ambition. It shows how easily the lines blur when both are on the line. Doron is now taking the story even further. He is currently developing The Tragedy of the Lady into a full series titled Sisters of Destiny.
At the heart of Sisters of Destiny is a powerful love triangle between Hanna, an ultra Orthodox Jewish girl, Eden, who has left her religious life behind, and Lin, a Palestinian student. Despite their differences, all three are searching for love and the freedom to express who they truly are. Doron discovered the idea while studying acting and screenwriting. During his acting course, an intense exercise called “the chair,” where students face each other in an emotional confrontation, sparked the story.
The exercise quickly turned intense when Doron found himself becoming aggressive against a close friend, forcing the teacher to stop the confrontation. The experience stayed with him, revealing the powerful conflict between love and ambition, a tension that ultimately became the emotional core of The Tragedy of the Lady.
That conflict, raw, complex, and deeply human, became the heart of The Tragedy of the Lady, and now breathes life into the characters of Sisters of Destiny.
DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY
“I began my career as an actor, and a play I wrote won first prize at a theater festival in Tel Aviv. A year later, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and I found myself unemployed due to the lockdowns. That’s when I enrolled in screenwriting studies at Ma’aleh Film School.“
“A script I wrote there was accepted to the Tel Aviv Student Film Festival, and I decided to direct it myself. I then continued my film education and have since shifted away from acting to focus solely on writing and directing.”
